Build a bike movement alert prototype

The HardwareBlocks Motion Kit can provide acceleration, rotation and a moving flag for a bike movement experiment. Your application decides when the bike is armed and when to notify you. The current kit needs Wi-Fi coverage; it is not a GPS tracker or a standalone theft alarm.

Build it step by step.

  1. Simulate movement

Add a Motion Kit simulation. Read motion.sample with moving, acceleration_g and rotation_dps. Show an armed state in your own application.

  2. Separate movement from an alarm

Test incidental vibration, deliberate movement and a disarmed bike. Add a cooldown and avoid treating every event as theft.

  3. Build the notification path

Run your own backend that reads events, remembers what it has processed and sends a notification through your chosen provider. The standard web app shows readings; it does not send alerts.

  4. Verify the physical route

Test mounting, sensitivity, power and Wi-Fi where the bike will be used. A lost connection must show as offline. A future phone gateway would require additional development.

Choose the right project

This is a useful indoor or Wi-Fi-covered prototype. For a bike moving beyond Wi-Fi, choose a solution with suitable connectivity or build that layer separately. The kit does not establish position or recover a stolen bike.

Example payload for simulation; it is not a physical measurement. Use the current sensor schema for validation.
